The Automat is an interactive video installation that investigates the experimental use of interactive technology to map psychological responses in a viewer. The art work explores mimicry response behaviour towards screen imagery in relation to the 'Fremdbild', our capacity to be aware of how we are seen by others. The installation software is designed to record and display video at the same time. By watching a song performance of the Song Archive Project, the viewer turns into a performer and may request to watch the reaction video whilst being recorded again, creating a visual feedback loop. The resulting recordings are part of the continued residency at the Department of Psychology at UOB bringing together the fields of art and science to investigate expression, empathy and self-reflection using digital technology. |
